Biography Keith Slack began his musical journey as a child in his hometown of Beaumont, Texas, honing his drum skills with a series of local bands. Slack’s significant prowess as a drummer led him to Hollywood, where he continued to impress fans and musicians alike in this bigger, more competitive scene. At the urging of guitarist Dave Marshall (Vince Neil, Slaughter, Fiona), Slack abandoned the comfort of the drum kit one night and stepped to the front of the stage to sing—an unexpected turn of events that changed everything. The Hollywood music scene was immediately buzzing with the news that the powerhouse drummer from Texas was also a powerhouse vocalist on par with legends like Glenn Hughes and Paul Rodgers, and Slack was soon fronting Mudpie, a bluesy, melodic hard rock band. Mudpie released one independent album to critical acclaim, but parted ways shortly thereafter. Slack then joined forces with veteran guitarist/producer Mike Slamer (Streets, City Boy, Seventh Key) to form Steelhouse Lane, whose brand of melodic hard rock was showered with praise by fans and journalists around the world. Genre gatekeeper www.melodicrock.com gave the band Album Of The Year honors while Slack was named Vocalist Of The Year, and the legend of Steelhouse Lane endures among AOR fans to this day. While riding high with Steelhouse Lane, Slack was asked to replace Kelly Keeling in the Michael Schenker Group for a massive tour of the USA, Europe, and Japan. The band recorded the immensely popular Unforgiven Live World Tour double-disc set on just the fourth night of the tour, forever cementing Slack’s place in the pantheon of Schenker’s ever-changing roster of world-class vocalists. This high-profile gig made the rock world take notice; Europe’s dominant hard rock magazine, Metal Hammer, named Slack Vocalist Of The Year on the strength of his live performances alone. Though Schenker rejoined UFO at the conclusion of the tour, forcing this lineup to disband without ever hitting the studio together, Slack remains one of the most popular and highly praised vocalists among MSG fans worldwide. Keith Slack joined the Rock Army Records family armed with a devastating weapon of his own creation: Bent, Not Broken. This amazing and highly personal collection of songs is the result of several years of intense work. While Slack did collaborate with a few friends on the album—including MSG bassist Barry Sparks—Bent, Not Broken is the ultimate showcase for Slack’s talent as a songwriter, vocalist, drummer, and overall musician, as he sings and plays almost every note himself. Slack also produced and mixed the album, before enlisting King’s X guitarist Ty Tabor to provide mastering at his Alien Beans Studio in Katy, Texas. In addition to promoting Bent, Not Broken, Slack is currently writing a new batch of songs and working alongside producer Paul Soroski (Podunk) on a variety of Rock Army Records projects. Big things are ahead for Keith Slack… watch this space for updates!
